M90 conversion: will these parts fit?

Hi all,

Sorry if this question is a little redundant. Based on the info I found on this and other boards, I've tried to piece together a set of parts that will allow me to replace my M46 overdrive box with an M90.

- M90 gearbox, gearbox support, and propshaft out of another 940
- Flywheel: reuse the flywheel from my M46 equiped 940
- Pressure plate: Sachs 3082 204 033, claimed to be compatible with (almost?) all 940 engines according to the parts shop
- Clutch: Sachs 1862 314 032, claimed to be compatible with a whole range of P80 cars according to the same shop, but not made for any redblock equiped cars.

Both clutch and pressure plate are 228mm.

Please let me know if I'm missing anything or these parts will not go together, or if & why it would be better to use other parts :)

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure on the part numbers, but the key thing is to match the pressure plate to the flywheel and the friction plate to the correct number of splines on the M90 gearbox input shaft.

The pressure plate can be any M46 one, Turbo and Diesel models have higher clamping pressure.
Friction plate must have the correct OD to fit in the dish of flywheel and correct splines for the M90.
You may also need to space out the clutch fork pivot.

There is a Turbo diesel model 940 which had a clutch that fits straight on. But not all TD 940s were the same, so some searching required..

Where are you? Available parts depend on your location.

The pressure plate can be any M46 one, Turbo and Diesel models have higher clamping pressure.
So I can just reuse my existing flywheel and pressure plate (which is from a B230FT), and find a 20 spline clutch with the right outer diameter (228mm) to fit the M46 pressure plate, if I understand correctly?

If this is the case, I don't need to get a new pressure plate and the clutch should work fine (it's 228mm and 20 splines)

That's correct.
As Boxtoy940 says, this thread is what you need:

Read the 29 page forum labelled “everything you need to know about the M90” it should confirm almost all of your questions. Since you’re planning on using the dogdish flywheel you will need to either space the clutch fork pivot ball with washers or get an extended one from Classic Swede. If not the fork will be at a shitty angle and won’t work properly or the slave rod will pop out. Read the M90 article, take some notes, and please let us know how you make out.
