;-)my brother wanted me to make him one just like i made for the 242, but since the car is a 91, it has headrests and he wanted to keep them:roll: so its basicly the same, but we notched out for the headrests, and made it just a little taller than before.

the pics are just when we built it, and it is wrapped in black subwoofer box carpet, ill get some pictures when its actually daylight. turned out nice though, and fits perfect, pretty happy

watcha think?

It is a friction/pressure fit. Pretty much wedged between the back seats and the sides and the rear window. It is not going anywhere.

So do the rears of the speakers just sit in the factory "holes" that are in the metal that goes acrosse there? The wood raises the speakers enough so that they can fit in there?

I remember when I put my speakers back there I had to hack up some metarl so they would fit... Mind you I may have had them misaligned but I can't quite remember.

no, the point of the box, is to not hack up the rear shelf, and the 6x9's i was using were kicker ds6930's, and still have 3/8" or so of clearence between the bottom of the magnets, and the metal. but i do utilize the holes though, i put the terminal side of the speaker over the factory hole and route the wires through there so that you can plug and unplug the speakers from the trunk, easy.

good work, however I do recommend mounting it somehow. I have read too many stories of unmounted items coming free with big impacts.
I know it won't come out with hard braking, however if the car launched into something or hit by another car you may not even have a back windows to retain it.
Other then that Looks great, keep it up.

i suppose i could drive a couple self tappers into it through the bottom, butim pretty damn sure it wont move whatsoever, it takes me 10 min to fit it in right.

so correct me if Im wrong. is it just a single board cut to shape with that slight curve, or do you have legs underneath of it to keep it slightly suspended above the shelf

the top is a single board of 3/4" mdf with a curve on it to fit the window, and it rests against right below the window on some bar thing, and the front has the peice is pressed against the back seat, seated on the metal.. the curve is backcut at 40 degrees or so towards the front of the car. the front piece that is screwed onto the other side of the board with out the curve that faces the back seat. and i just added a side peice to support the joint there. this is the one i made for my 242 -------

it is really simple to make, all you need is a skil saw or table saw, a jigsaw or bandsaw, and a drill with a few bits and screws. then just wrap itin whatever you like.
