Hello,

I already own a 740 GLE (ex-daily) and a 242 DL (project car) but I wanted a 245.

Bought this pos 1975 245 because it's 40 years old and has autogas.
40 years old means tax free riding in the Netherlands and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) is cheap as hell. So cheapest daily everrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Some pics:

That's not a 75. Rear lights are wrong, bumper is wrong, dash is wrong.

I keep hearing that LPG is cheaper, but what's the cost per Km?

Maybe somebody swapped vins for tax evasion ? :e-shrug:
That is definetely not a 75 front and rear are wrong
75 should look like this

Congrats on the buy though!

And as someone else pointed out, that's definitely the 81+ dash.

Something's fishy here, or OP mashed the wrong number combo

Location is listed as the Netherlands. Not completely out of the ordinary for someone in that part of the world to spend a winter locked in the garage updating an older shell with newer bits to gain the comfort/styling/reliability of a newer vehicle while maintaining the tax exempt status of the older shell.

Or it could be a typo/title trickery.

Swapping 1975 identity to a newer 240 has been done many times here in Sweden, even though it's illegal. Some have also been totally rebuilt from a '75 base.

Yeah, I'm also sure its a vin swap as the '75 must have been rusted out there...

Definitely got later taillight swap. And that hood is appropriate for the cowl it's got, it's just a coffin hood.

I have to say, coffin hood/grille and 86+ headlights (this look) is my least favorite look for a 240.

New model rear lights were welded in by previous owner. Newer front end swap too (come on that's easy). And the cowl is one of the points that you can see it's not been vin swapped. I checked before I bought it.

The guy used a 1991-1993 donor to make it this way

And the spare wheel wells have been done already. There is still a lot of rust, not structurally dangerous tho.

Also has a B23A engine and ****ty Borg Warner 3 gear auto

nope
nope

lets say thats true... why would anyone take out the chrome/stainless trim and paint them black. Then why would the install the plastic side moldings...

its much easier to swap the engine and trans along with vin tags - (1 on a pillar, 1 on passenger side door opening, one under the hood)

I bet Jeffs life that this is not a 75

Okey so nice find then...but you need to end speculations here by posting a pic of the VIN
Good luck with the car! :)

All the window molding, lower door molding, rocker molding, rear valance, etc. would be almost more of a massive pain in the ass than welding the later style tail light sheet metal in place.

Then again, the windshield trim looks like '75, and the roof/windshield area paint looks like super tired single stage, so maybe somebody was completely insane. It's the Volvo of Theseus!

agree with all expect windshield trim
the 75s got the 8 piece stainless flush window trim. The one thats on that car is typical to 79-1990 styles

also has the screw on type windshield wipers typical to 79+ cars - you can see the faded plastic covers on themz
