I updated the OP with a couple of driving routes for those of you who don't plan on being permanently drunk or in a meat coma all weekend.

I'm bringing a big pot of chili, cheese, and chips that will be ready to eat for Thursday Pm or whenever folks are arriving and are hungry.

Also bringing biscuits or makings for them, grits, bacon, and cheese.

I'm about 95% sure that this place doesn't even have a TV.

Verizon doesn't have any service there. You may occasionally get a blip of voice/text service, but nothing worth mentioning.
AT&T shows coverage on their map up to about the driveway. You might get lucky.
Sprint? Fuhgeddaboudit.

You may actually have luck with a decent TV antenna. There's lots of tall mountains in that area that have TV transmitters on top.

crazy that vzw doesn't have coverage there

You'll understand once you drive out here. I seem to remember having limited service on the other side of the lake (not that the lake's that big, it just might not be in an antenna's shadow), but yeah, it still feels like 1998 out here sometimes.

Also, if you're only going to do one hike in the area, do Mt. Pisgah. It's a short hike (3 miles round trip) with a mild 750' elevation gain. The views at the top, especially at sunset, are awe inspiring. If you started out around 5:30 or 6 from the parking area, you should be up top in plenty of time to watch the sun go down. Return trip would be in the dark though. Not a deal breaker, just something to consider.

Check out the view.

Moore Falls, Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock, Dill Falls, Turtleback Falls, Dry Falls, Bridal Veil, Bust 'yer Butt Falls, Paradise Falls, and Cullasaja Falls are all in the immediate area and relatively easy to access.
