No direction - the build saga of an 82 242 DL

2 day in a row of forward progress might be a record. A couple more hours in on the new donor floor pan section.

Might not look like much but after some more cleaning and some sand blasting it should be good to go. One small section near the front drain may need some attention but might be fine after blasting.

I got a little carried away and it almost looks like a car again. Didn't really need the doors yet but figured I needed a change of scenery.

I recognize that hood! Don't understand why you changed the fenders for the FH though as your car was an early model, yes?

I've got to recover from my recent event, then finish the 745 before I can start on my 242. Plan to install the FH, single rounds & grille to at least have it look like the finished 242. No heavy lifting for me at least 2 months however! Amazed you found the NOS 5 panel at Voluparts.... they didn't have another by chance?

I had changed the fenders out to run the 86 and later Ecode lights and GLT grill. I think the single rounds will be a better look for this car, just had to swap back to the original fenders and core support.

I think that was the only NOS 5 panel they had. Its on the wall for now until I am sure it wont be needed. I have the patch for the rear panel held in place, but haven't welded it in yet.

We may need to negotiate on that 5 panel panel! I'm still kickin' obviously...... Could be over this week, just shoot me a PM what day you are off.

Finally after 4 Years the 242 has a solid floor again! I ended up cutting the floor pan section down mostly to minimize the amount of welding that I would have to do under the car.

I needed a way to push the pan up against the rocker to plug weld around the edges. After digging through the scrap pile and melting some parts together, I came up with this small jackstand. It worked out great to close up the gaps.

And after a few hours of fitting and welding, the pan is finally in. Lots of grinding to go and I still need to repair the panel the seat bolt to. I have 2 to pick from out already but like everything else with this project I think my 87 parts car has a better one...

On to the tail light panel repairs next.
