Opel manta GTE b series yep, Right its not a volvo BUT due to the total absence of anyone wanting to experiment themselves with these engines, my total inability to leave anything standard and the greatness of the colective minds on this board ... How much supercharged psi will a 9.4:1cr support ? :) the car will be megasqirted before i start so ignition and fueling will all hopefully be taken care of . basicly a company called courtnays produced turbo mantas in the 80's running up to 15 psi and making 210bhp but they used a decompression plate between two head gaskets the thickness of which they will not disclose  and water injection. anyway i cant be bothered to take the engine apart yet i was aiming for just 5-7 psi and an increase from 110bhp to around 150bhp using a eaton m45 from a bmw mini. good fuel is obviously a given as is a large intercooler. any helpfull sugestions are greatfully recived as are sugestions of where i can better ask this question. NICE ONE GUYS !!!

This is the 2.0L 4 cil E engine, right?
Maybe you can fit some 2.0N pistons? I seem to remember those having a lower CR so they could be operated on low octane gas. They were sold in MantaB/AsconaB/RekordE

The decompression plate is a sub-optimal solution, the engine will have less squish/quench action between pistontop and head. Potential cam-drive problems and cam-timing problems to solve.

5-7psi: that's low pressure boost, go for it.

personally .. on 9.4:1 CR you should be able to run 20-30psi of boost just fine as long as everything else is up to the task.

CR doesn't really affect how much boost you can run as there are a lot of other factors.

Some prefer running lower CR and higher boost

he just wants you to destroy your engine ....
