I been talking to a local Amazon owner (Jay) for a while now and he mentioned a few times over the years that his mom has a wagon that needs some work. She bought it back in 1993 and stopped driving it around 2010 after it developed some issues. He parked it inside after draining all the coolant and gas out of it back then. I didnt think much of it until my son mentioned he wanted a car...

This weekend we finally had time to go and get it, he just turned 16. Car lived most of it's life close to Oakhurst Ca where we picked it up. Came from a Volvo 240 family, mom drives an 88 wagon now and she did not want this to end up at a JY.

1984 245 manual with a used engine out of 1988? 414k miles on odometer. It got repainted after Mom was doing chemo and fell asleep behind the wheel. The paint on it is 9/10 in most places with only the front core support having a bunch of rock damage.

after putting air in the tires we hooked up to the 850 and drove home. Round trip was 487 miles and car(s) averaged 21.2

Yesterday I washed years of mouse pee/poop and dust off it. No soap on outside but I did use LA cleaner to start cleaning the engine bay

that's it for few days as I got other things to finish first, mainly sisters 244

"I DONT WANT EVERYTHING POWDERCOATED" son
shut up!

Plan is to get it up and running together and replace parts as we go, unlike his sister, he's not moving away anytime soon so that takes a lot of the pressure off me

Oakhurst not a bad town. I grew up in the foothills nearby. Not surprised by the banged up front end, so much of everything is gravel out there.

The cream yellow color really stands out compared to modern cars.
Car was actually in Ahwahnee. Never been to that part of the state. Looks just like many towns around here (northern sierras) just more secluded. As a teen we would go camping at Hume Lake 3 times a year just never made it to Yosemite

I’m looking forward to waxing it, should really stand out.

Very scenic all around that area of Hwy 49. Yosemite proper is just a step up from there but the tourist density slightly tarnishes it.

Having driven there as an adult though, I hate the switchbacks through the canyons. Narrow highway, cliff wall on one side, sheer drop on the other, and all the locals are going way faster than you.

Why is my coolant not powder coated :nono:
just you wait

keychain from where the car got bought back in 93

21.2MPG on the way home is pretty good!
well that's combined the whole trip... going there with nothing attached

Today I coated parts we pulled this weekend. I started to work on the front bumper (no pictures). @bobxyz you can see my LR body panels blasted and waiting for repair/coating
