Papa I need a car - 1984 245 DL - son's first car

I powdercoated the trim, sanded and painted the C pillar and installed the updated gaskets with glass

used this on the body and inside the gasket - when I replaced these gaskets on my car I didnt add any sealant and it never leaked so Im not sure if this is a necessary step

I was worried that it wouldn't work with the trim but it does

I dont think I've ever mentioned this publicly... I was too cheap to keep Volvo black handles on my car (I always sold them), so I hunted for a replacements at junkyards. Turns out E30 BMW are almost identical- even the holes line up perfectly- and they're cheap

This week on Junkyard Diaries... in an exclusive interview, junkman Jack reveals his deepest, darkest secrets

Also - is the later-style rear quarter window rubber available new somewhere? Or are these always scrounged from the yards as well?

Some things are better not know publicly!

I never looked into getting them new, even on roached out cars they are like new still.
Pro tip: sit in the car and kick the window out, only about 1/20 shatters

Cool, thanks for the tip. My green '75 has the usual crunchy rust under the quarter windows on both sides. I haven't taken the windows out yet but it hasn't gotten worse in my 10 years of owning the car, and it's totally fixable. Not looking forward to the repair job though...

I see my orange 75 245 out my kitchen window and I have the same repair pending.
I kind of want to keep the aluminum trim on it and probably need to start looking for new gaskets that retain that

I forgot about the trim. Same for me, I want to keep the '75 looking original in the body department. My plan was to re-use the old rubber if it's still intact. Looks like VP doesn't carry that early style, but they do have the newer '88-'93 rubber.

Edit: looks like VP does carry the old style trim though. It's listed in the 145 section. https://vp-autoparts.com/en/artikla...dow-glass-rubber-seals-145-1967-74/index.html

If you find a source for early windshield rubber, please let me know too! I’ve had a cracked windshield for years and haven’t fixed it just because I don’t want to lose the chrome trim.

The early 240 windshields have no rubber - the glass is held in with butyl alone, and the trim is retained by steel clips. If my memory serves correctly, anyhow!

started to fix the wiring with the turn signals. I hate how corroded the connectors get so I decided to put modern connectors on
I went with Delphi Metri-Pack 150 2 Way Sealed Connector Assembly Kit for 22-18 AWG. I think Im going to add this to my stage 0 from now on.

Yup
Vp cvr etc sell the clips too and new older style windshields. You can also order it from Volvo for about the same price after shipping

No way. I’ve been rocking this old ass cracked and pitted OG windshield so long! Thanks guys.

I thought I was done with the rust, turns out pass front had some still
I should have checked before installing rear carpet as it would have been easier to clean the mess up

Oakhurst is the rust belt, buy better cars

Lemme get a ride-along when it's done, I want to see if it's worth soundproofing my 245 to the extent that you have here. You've got more material in one wheel well than I do on my whole roof.

I imagine this side was rusty from the floor plug being pushed up and water pooled in front of it. ( I straightened it out too)
2/3 of the 75s we got don't have rust and those rust just by existing

Sure, it's got way more insulation than my 245 and on that one it was a huge difference especially in the heat.
