Anyone whose ran the bmw oil squirters did you run a copper washer ? I'm having some clearance issues. It doesn't hit but boy is it close. Any info would be much appreciated.
Yeah I did turn the crank and it clears but the clearance still bugs me. My real question is if everyone else runs the bmw squirters with a copper crush washer or not.
IIRC, I installed my bmw squirters with the washer and there was still good clearance. Check that you drilled the correct side of the piston -- look at the crank flanges as they spin around and you'll see that one side is more angled-off and has better clearance (or at least on a B21FT). If you drilled the wrong side, you can plug the hole with a short bolt+washer and move the squirter to the other side.
Edit: I checked my pictures but couldn't find a clear one. I may have used aluminum crush washers, especially if the bmw squirters shipped with them, or I may have assembled them with just a light touch of permatex 3H. I doubt I'd have assembled them with nothing given the fine threads, thin walls, and low torque.
I ran a file on the places where it touched the crank.
perhaps the copper washer is overkill, if there is seepage, it drips into the oilpan, and would it seriously affect the operation of the squirters? Hopefully not enough to matter.
Thanks for the answers guys, think I may try them without crush washer and just a bit of sealant. If I recall correctly I don't believe the squirters themselves came with a copper crush washer, so I believe this is where the discrepancy is coming from.
