everything you need to know to install this
This mirror will fit just about every car out there

This mirror does not fit the stock location because
- volvo has a ball pivot on the base while the mirror has the ball pivot on the mirror

I hooked up +12V to fuse #1

Installation
I took my mirror to a glass shop to have them glue in the metal base tab - it was only $5 and done right(about the same as what the products will cost you at a parts store)

On 245s the old mirror plate will leave much to be desired. I sanded a broken mirror base.
Note how the thread gets exposed when you remove material.

I put some epoxy in the hole, sanded it smooth and painted simi gloss black to match the base
used a rubber mallet to install in place

On 245 I had to drill a hole in the upper windshield trim (244/242 are a little different but you get the idea)
- NOTE I did not remove my trim all the way because of the windshield glue was all over the place and just drilled a hole while in car. Be careful not to drill into your windshield

You have to remove the A-pillar trim and run wire behind it

I wanted to have a toggle switch between two sensors one for outside temp and one for the 3rd seat inside area so I know how hot/cold my kids are. I ran the sensor inside the cab on dashboard- sensor is not fast to react, it would get hot inside the cab and temp would still read in the 40s - took some time to get to the correct temp. I will have to put "in cab sensor" on hold until I find one that works instantly and is compatible with mirror (works great outside)

pictures of wiring harness being built up - it helps to save all the wiring from donor cars

ran the sensor wires through a hole under the hood latch cable

Installed the sensor in front of the radiator - 2 zip ties were used

Bump, I got mine from a 2006 saturn vue
Jack the temp inside took a long time to register because the"brain". In the mirror disregards a high jump in temp( it assumes you stopped at a light and are getting an off reading from heat from engine bay)
After consistent higher readings it will display the new temp

I love the auto dim on these mine has a front and rear sensor, so it adjusts to dark outside and then gets darker when headlights are behind you

The saturn mirror also has a reverse block out ie.
When you put the car in reverse the autodim goes off for best rear visibility!

You could use a plate mounted to the Volvo mount to fit it there.
Any part numbers for these? Some of us can only buy by part number as we are OS and don't have those cars.
What's the width like? I always feel like the 240 mirrors are too small.

I'm going to politely disagree with your wiring. Wire three (which is to disable the mirror auto dimming function when in reverse gear) should not be connected to wire two (ground wire). While the connection won't damage anything, it is unnecessary. I have connected to the back up light circuit in at least two of my installations. When the initial installation is done, I recommend connecting a wire to wire three and running it with the other wires to below the dashboard. That makes connecting to the reverse light circuit much easier in the future.

Also, I don't solder the connections. Solder is an inferior electrical connection compared to crimp terminals. The only reason to use solder and a heat shrink sleeve is to attempt to make the connection a little smaller for hiding under the headliner. I have not had to do this.

I always connect the temperature sensor following the wire colors, but I don't believe it is polarity sensitive, and will work connected wither way.

Very cool article.

Cautionary note for our later model FWD models - I believe (at least on the cabrio C70) that removing the original mirror will totally screw your security circuit rendering the car a no start without dealer intervention (or re-install of the original mirror). Someone can keep me honest there but that is my understanding. Not sure if that extends beyond the cabrio.

Just a footnote.

you cant bump old threads :-P

I know some P2 chassis models have that but those come with auto dim anyway... when they dont turn to crap

I didnt think the c70 p80 chassis did

Agreed but didn't want to run the risk of someone with a P2 trying to do this and screwing the car up. Especially since the mirrors fail pretty often.

Ya that sounds about right. They didn't have the compass and the clock which was a cool potential upgrade, though there was something I found a while ago about a way to replace the actual glass on the mirror without having to deal with the hassle of the programing issues.

Decent vid on the replacement: https://youtu.be/J-Xh9K_a9mA And it looks like a universal for the P2 models.

Good job Jack. :pat:
