The new parts getter arrived... Not project related, but you know.

Small update, but I now am leasing a shop, and I have moved the 242 over.

So I'm going to get serious about getting it on the road this year, and will be doing a video series on the car.

Started pulling the rest of the interior stuff out, found a lot more rust. Removed pretty much all of the sound deadening stuff.

The worst of it is this jack support, trying to figure out how to remake this part, but Ill probably end up doing something custom.

Then noticed some holes in wheel well, then below windshield, so this happened.

I really don't want to get caught up fixing every little thing, but I figure I should at least stop the water getting back in there.

Been watching a lot of sheet metal Youtube videos lately. Made my first part and its not exactly "pretty" but I'm happy with it. Still need to lathe up some dimple dies and get my press back from my friend. But it fits sort of!

WOW!!!!

Love this! That's exactly what i am going to do now as my 242 has some massive holes in the front footwell and under the seats, exactly as you got there lol. I needa have a chat to you lol :D

Great work!

Haha, with metal work like this, I have no idea what I'm doing

Oh my! You rock!

Subbed to you on youtube, same username :)

Come check my stuff haha. Nothing as big as yours, but oh well, gotta start somewhere :)

Nice to have a use of a proper lathe etc, great!

How hard was it to remove the under seat panel? Did you drill the spots out or just harassed it out of it's place?

That's what i was doing yesterday evening. Done most of the drivers side, but still, loads to do. Will try my hand and drill at it later in to day.

Cheers!

It was a HUGE pain, but I was using crappy spot weld removers in 30C heat. I got better ones the other day and it has been night and day different for removing panels.
Get a flapper wheel on the grinder, find all the spot welds and drill them out. Should pop off pretty easily if I had to do it again.

Well, i use the ebay special spot weld cutter, the little spring loaded needle with a crown over the tio that drills around the spot weld. Works quite ok, but still, a bit of a pain... Will go ham in a few hours again haha.

Be well!

I did a photo scan of the front jack mount location and used it to CAD the part. Might try and CNC a buck for it and hammer one out.

Here is the original scan: https://service.widar.io/web-viewer/de482550-adbb-4c1e-b763-d8457d75c52b/

Here is the Fusion File, not sure how well it will fit yet, haven't double checked all dimensions: https://a360.co/3DligNH

and Grabcad: https://grabcad.com/library/volvo-240-front-driver-side-jack-frame-support-1

Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to make one. Thinking I might CNC some MDF into a buck and hammer it out. I don't think my press could handle this shape.

That looks amazing!

How did you scan it all? Loads of pictures and then shove it all into a program to render it? Looks ace! I might do that to the 242 shell so i can do some modelling on the wings for the widebody. We shall see

Keep on chugging! :)

I just used some photo scanning app on my phone, there are a bunch. There are some good models for the 242 already though, you shouldn't need to scan your own. I think someone pulled this model from the game assetto corsa and it seems pretty accurate: https://a360.co/3JHXpbr
Its not a solid body though, only a surface(same as what you would get with a scan)

Have you tried to contact CVI? The jacking points are temporarily out of stock but maybe they get them again? https://www.cvi-automotive.se/en/articles/2.20292.58739/jack-member-240-75-93-lhf
A Member on here PM'd me some links and a place near them that sometimes have NOS sheet metal parts and I was blown away that they exist, had no idea. Still no LHF jack member to be found yet, they might be all sold out 😐
There's also Brookhouse Volvo specialists in the UK that i am trying to get parts for my 242 from. I can help you with some bits like ringing them etc if you need.

Adam
Oh, for sure if you're going to call, ask about that LHF jack member. The other stuff I need is in stock, and now I'm going to save myself a ton of time just buying a few of these instead of making them.
