SquareD's slow and steady 945 tarbo project

I've been close to pulling the trigger on a Forge FMDVRMR (great marketing, just rolls off the tongue, right?) CBV for years, but just couldn't justify the nearly $200 price. The other day I got bored and jumped on ebay and did a search and what do you know, there was one listed as "new, other" for $96.48. The only catch was it was still bubble wrapped and the seller wouldn't send a picture with it unwrapped to see what the item actually was. Looking at their feedback, this seller is selling tons of random stuff. Then I get a buy it now offer for under $75 with free shipping. Umm, sure... why not. It arrived in the original box with the extra springs and 2 lengths of nice hex head bolts; never been out of the bubble wrap. Score. It makes some neat whooshy sounds too.

I guess this project thread isn't quite done yet...

I always enjoyed seeing this blue (or green?) 945 in your signatures! What an amazing car, I hope it goes to someone who can give it the same amount of love that you've given it!

i've been on this forum for long enough to go from hating this car just because it wasn't a 240 to appreciating that it's basically perfect and possibly the nicest 940 in the country. certainly curious to see what it fetches on BaT.

This warms my cold heart. Thanks Quin.

man, still so tempting, still love the car and the mods, still dont have the garage space...would have to give something else the boot. Will probably go for more than you offered it for, crazy how much these have appreciated in such a short time after lagging behind 240 wagons which I never understood. GLWS and can't be many nicer ones left.

Just saw my favorite 9 series vaggen on BaT. Best of luck..... for sure the 9's have been underappreciated. Perhaps the "straight up hood" has finally been discovered? Great machines, it will be fun to see how much this one brings.

What's next for you when this one sells? Kid's tuition, or will there be another in the stable?

Haha, yep these 9 series are underappreciated gems, but they might not be for long. It make sense that 240s caught on first since they're so iconic, but hopefully some have realized that you can have a classic, boxy RWD Volvo that has some sizzle already baked in.

As far as what comes next, not sure. I doubt there will be another project car in the near future. We're getting into the meat and potatoes of parenting with school sports and more travelling, so I'm happy just taking all that in.

wow, this build is awesome! wish i had discovered it long ago. i am on my own 9 series journey (1998 v90, last year!!) and can only hope that some day mine turns out half as well. clearly lots of time and love put into this build, hope it does well on BaT

pic of mine for reference :)
