Steering wheel re-upholstering

Hello ladies & gents.

Has anyone ever re-upholstered a wheel with this sort of pre-cut/pre-sewn covers?
What's your take and how do you see it after some use?

My 940T wagon's wheel is a disaster and I'm sick of driving the car like this but I dislike regular covers, I don't want to send the car to re-upholter the wheel professionaly and nor do I want to swap the wheel (although I would rather do it, than the other options).
I don't see many drawbacks with this diy upholstery options though. Any opinions?

The rim will look thick if you don’t peel off the original skin. It will also look lumpy if you neglect to prep it first.

Otherwise, go hogwild. It’s rewarding if you take the time to make it nice.

First. let's get it out of the way. That's a gorgeous 240. Oh my... What a beautiful ride.
I get what you mean, but I don't want to peel the old one off because these covers are precut and so my wheel would have exposed parts without leather, like the picture bellow.
What do you mean lumpy if I don't prep?

I actually purchased a cheap kit from Amazon a couple months back for my 240. Apparently its genuine leather, smells like it, feels great, and in my opinion was a worth while upgrade!IMG_7082VV.jpg

High quality, have one over 7 years old holding up very nicely, I really like the euro perf they offer. Gives 240 wheels a hair more thickness, feels nicer in your hand

Just be careful with the cheap leather kits. A lot of the genuine leather ones really are leather, but it's "bonded leather" - i.e leather scraps puree'd up and mixed with binders. Some of that can be OK, but I've owned a few bonded leather belts that wore out fast and looked awful in a couple months.
