too many kms for a +t?

So I am considering doing a +t to my 81 b21a with 364,000 kms on the clock, and I have seen plenty of stuff online promoting a +t, but I am worried that although the engine runs very well as is, that it may have too little life left in it to start adding boost.

I would love to hear what you guys think.


ps: if anyone on vancouver island is reading this and they have a 93+ motor they would part with please hmu I would like to discuss that.

To me, it seems much easier to install a B230F or B230FT, especially one made in 1989 or 1990 (or later) K block, since it will already have the 13mm rods and an oil return drain hole (B230FT)

The fuel injection will be an added bonus too

Is this your only car?

If not, buy another long block and some turbo parts while you're driving it around. Then swap when you're ready. It's going to be a long process to convert a carb'd car to any kind of EFI for running a turbo. Yes, a blow-through is technically possible, but almost certainly more work than it's worth, plus you sort of have a performance cap with a carburetor.

The B21 is a little stronger but with turbo EFI is going to be much more reliable and consistent. Best bet is a complete donor car. Worth rebuilding a engine before fitting if you want it to last

What's more important than what we think is what the actual condition of the motor is, regardless of mileage.

For a baseline, you need to do a compression and a leak down test, that will give you a good indication of the engine's health. It is unlikely you have an oil pressure gauge in the car, so checking oil pressure at idle & under load would also be wise.

Even with that, all the previous remarks hold true. Get a donor car. You will need so many parts to make this work, it's going to nickel & dime you to death.
