TURBO DIESEL OIL? Has anyone used this in their B230FT volvos? the reason i ask this is because at the shop we use Rotella 15W-40 on our higher mileage cars.... and i think it runs alot better than running 10w - 30. (oil consumption, etc) And my assumption would be that using this Mobil 1 turbo diesel oil would be better than running Rotella since its synthetic and it they claim it runs like a 15w-40 ..... what do you think? My B230Ft has 185,000 miles..

You do know they make synthetic Rotella 5w-40, right?

i agree. i think im gonna try out this mobil 1 turbo diesel oil. sounds good. ill let everyone know how it goes

This "turbo diesel oil" is a heavy duty rating, which does not reference oil thickness whatsoever. You can still get it in multiple thicknesses im sure. This is essentially high-end semi truck oil. Check into the prices for gallon jugs of Mobil Delvac oil, thats the stuff that all the truckers claim as the reason that they are getting 1 million miles between rebuilds on their engines....of course, that's on a 14 liter cast iron engine the size of your brick, with a turbo the size of the engine in my brick....point being, if you use semi oil, dont get anything more expensive than delvac or you are wasting your money. It costs like $20 a gallon, which aint a bad price at all.

I have a gallon jug of cheap 10w40 semi truck oil that i plan on using in the volvo next oil change. Its the cheapest crappiest semi oil you can buy, but if the company i worked for got 40,000 miles between oil changes, it should work fine for my car for 3 or 4000 miles!

I was schooled by an ex-military helicopter turbo rebuilder, who also went into Volvo turbo re-builds, and he said that the best oil for these turbos is Red Line 15W-40, anything lower viscosity was too thin to keep lubrication at its best when the oil gets really hot.
I believe him, but that stuff is expensive! $10/qt.
One better alternative is the Valvoline Dura-Blend 15W-40 which is a high performance oil for gasoline vehicles. Thing that diesel oils cannot include in their formulation is additives like detergents, and pure synthetics, because these are combustable in a diesel engine, which is not recommended.
In any case, I would use any 15W-40 over a lower viscosity. As far as Mobil 1, I would choose the 15W-50 instead of the 5w-40 especially for hot climates like texas.
In the newer turbo's, my 04 V70, I use either the Penzoil full syn, Mobil 1, or Valvoline full syn 10w-30

i use motorcraft 15w-40 powerstroke diesel formula. it's usually on sale and comes in a 5-qt jug instead of the 4-qt jugs other brands come with.

Rotella T synthetic 5w40 in the summer and mobil 1 0w30 in the winter for the truck, the 245t with 350k gets 15w40 all year round, only Rotella T.

I'm a big fan of Rotella T 15-40 in just about everything I own.. My girlfriend wont let me put it in her civic because she thinks it'll hurt her fuel mileage.. I'm more concerned with wear though..

If I am not mistaken, Mobil 1 Turbo diesel 5W-40 motor oil is not for heavy duty trucks. It is for diesel passenger vehicles and Diesel pick-up trucks.
