Is there anyone making something to freshen up VIN plates? Maybe a black sticker that goes over the existing plate?
Here's a terribly taken picture of mine

Looking for ideas to bring it back to life

fwiw.....I've also been messing with a way to make them NEW - aluminum, silk screened and reverse stamped (could change the color code, etc). Until its a 'popular' thing, wouldn't be cost effective....but they'd be dead on lookalikes.

I think the 67+ were a different font, info, etc.

Look up VIN tampering....felony...

You can sometimes get special permission to remove to refurbish/restore.

If the rest of the car looks as nice, the authorities should have nothing to suspect. But then again, ftp.

15G, those two fonts are noticeably different. Especially noticeable in the lower case "s" in the labels on the left, and the VOLVO font. The serifs on the original plate are much shorter and narrower.

Its why I haven't offered them yet. I need one thats legible to make it picture-perfect. Mine was so destroyed by brake fluids, that this is what I had to work with. I did have a nicer 67+, but those are yet a different font with different info on them as well. So glad someone in the arctic circle was able to justify their parasitic existence by changing irrelevant ish. Whats funny is this actually matches closer to the 67+ Volvo lettering.

I'm looking at a parts car that oddly enough has a really nice VIN tag - might could use that one unless someone has a loaner (for a free resto in return). :oogle:

And its 15A - 15G was an old porn star back in the day. We get confused for each other alot.

:-P

Is the paint code integral to the vin or is that seperate?

I don't see how this could be vin tampering if you don't change anything...

The blanks come from that seller on eBay selling them for $185 without the stamping? I know he charges extra to have them stamped. No clue what he charges to do that.

I bet if you were really worried about the legality of the restored VIN plate, you could just contact the state troopers. In Virginia if you build a chopper, or a kit car, you call the state police and they send an officer down to watch you engrave a serial/vin into the frame of the vehicle/bike. Then it's as legal as any other factory VIN. I'm sure the local Troopers office could answer any question you have.
