Volvo 240 TDI swap

A Cummins swap into a lifted AWD 240 would be fun.

Diesel clatter is easily explained away as piston slap.
When I was driving my 244 (unknown mileage but slapped like hell), I had a lot of folks at gas stations ask if it was a diesel. I really didn't notice from inside the car, but if I was ever warming it up in the morning before work, the clatter was noticeably diesel-like.

And I used to own an actual diesel Volvo.

I had a car with a cracked camshaft. Right between 2 lobes but since it was interlocked it kept working. Made fun diesel noises too
