I have a very good question. How difficult/impossible would it be to swap an entire ac unit from 740 into a late 240. I know that in some areas 700 and 200 are quite different and placement of alternator and other parts differ between them. So i need some help with that. The 740 is a 88’ model and i have a 92’ 240.

Impossible. Everything that isn't the engine, trans, or rear brakes is completely different. The 92 should have good AC, what is your issue with it

Do what Dave Barton did and order vintage air

by the time you order all the junk needed for a good ac system to Poland (?) it will just make more sense to modernize from the start
You could probably import an entire 240 by the time one was done getting just the AC system components.

I don’t have ac in my 240. But thank you for the answer
I believe you can get nearly every necessary part brand new except for a couple hoses. Buy the correct brackets from a user on here and it's maybe a day of R&R.

Yeap poland (sadly), and yeah it kinda does make sense to do that

There is one 240 in Poland that has ac, factory power windows, heated seats, and power mirrors but it’s an 81’ model plus the guy wants 8k pln which is $2k and guy selling only the ac from 740 wanted 1,5k pln so like 400 bucks.

there's some part #s for air conditioning components still available new in this thread, but since they're all USA part numbers they may not be helpful to you.

technically all of that equipment from the '81 can be physically transferred onto the '92 but the wiring harnesses won't match up easily. after 44 years the parts likely aren't in great shape either.

That’s nice to see a felow pole in here. I said sadly cause well equiped 240 are quite rare and expensive.

Thanks uncle Hitler and cousin Stalin

They’re getting rare here too, but they sold like hot cookies for 20 years… and USA models got the best stuff. In California they don’t really rust but the government is making it harder to own them

Let me know if you’re ever looking for parts, I can help

My main problem is parts. With wiring harness i can work and make something good enought to last and not kill the car.

And for the state of components. I know that they’ll be in a mediocre shape at least but its cheaper and probably easier to get them renovated/refurbished.

Once there was a young engineering Student (not me) who dreamed about installing 700 series ac in 240. Some fiberglass work for moving the fan was in the plan.

As a old and practical engineer:
Just buy vacuum operated heater and compressor bracket from Sweden.
Then buy all hoses and things from Rockauto. And I did that.

I have the AC/heater suitcase with evaporator, heater core and blower motor. Also, the short pig tail harness that connects the system to a 91-93 240. I also have a good used low pressure hose. I don't have the condenser or any of the other lines. I have the AC compressor/power steering bracket you will need to mount a compressor. You can see a picture of the AC system in this thread. Get in touch if you are interested in buying any of the parts I have.

This would be a very lovely deal but i am woried that DHL will want like 200 bucks for shipping. But i will think this thru as it’s a very tempting offer.
