So a couple weeks ago, I did a b21 -> b23 swap. I pulled the tranny with the b21 and then moved the tranny, clutch, pp, and flywheel to the b23 and dropped it all in. While connecting my clutch cable to the fork, I notices the fork had no resistance against the clutch cable. The fork moved easily back and forth. Not knowing the problem, I pulled the engine again tonight and took the tranny off. I don't see the problem. I don't have the return spring but have been told I don't need it. Tranny worked fine on the b21. Anybody have any ideas what's up?

Here are pics of the suspects.

I think we need a more thorough description of the problem. Do you mean that the fork moves forward and hits the bell housing before The release brg contacts the pressure plate?

The second one. If you put the plate in the flywheel backwards, the hub/spring unit, which protrudes more on one side, will bind. The protruding side must face the pp.

The spacer is only used with an automatic trans flex plate. That is what the problem is. Also, you don't have the torque converter pilot bushing still in the back of the crank of the B23 do you? If I'm understanding what you are saying, the pilot bearing and retainer snap ring show in the pic of the B21 are what should be in the B23 crank. Not that long steel bushing that is sticking out of the crank.
