Where to get genuine brick parts in London?

Hello fellow TBers!!

I'm traveling to London and want to use the opportunity to buy some parts for my brick and save on shipping and maybe import taxes.

So - where do I buy OEM parts for my 940? Like oil pump for an example.

Or performance parts like say turbo cams.

I'll be there for a week but don't yet know exactly where. Bought tickets but not booked residence yet.

Thanks a bunch!!

I think you might be a little too far west for anything fancy since as far as I know the big vendors are further east on the mainland or in Sweden.

You might be able to order something for delivery to the UK and then fly it home with you, but then you'd be dealing with UK customs/importing and possibly paying VAT.

Hit the salvage yards and see if you can find some ecode lights for your car. You could try getting in touch with Classic Swede. I don't know where they are in the UK but it may be worth a visit if it's not too far. Driving over there was super fun except for the London traffic jam part.

That's a good point, ecodes would be very nice. Might be a bit of $$ to pack them in the luggage back home but I'm sure you could mail them to yourself if it's cheaper.

"Involvo'd" on Youtube is also in the UK at the moment, unsure if he has a lead on any parts but might be worth messaging him there if there's anything you're looking for.

When I visited the UK. I had a deal on Ecode 5 panel tail lights from an old 244 sitting in a yard. But I passed on them thinking about the luggage and I should have gone for it.

I’m in London.

The days of finding rwd volvos in scrapyards are over unfortunately, there was a good volvo breaker not too far away from London in Bedford, but they rarely have 240/940s anymore.

If you’re after specific parts like ecodes (are lhd and rhd ecodes the same? I’m pretty sure they aren’t) I suggest you join the ‘volvo 700 900 owners U.K.’ Facebook group and put up a wanted list- there are several friendly breakers on there and various people selling parts. You should be able to get parts delivered to wherever you’re staying, or I might be able to help.

The vast majority of performance parts are from Sweden, meaning that having them shipped here to the U.K. and shipped to the USA might not be that different after import taxes etc (much lower limit for import taxes in the U.K. compared to the USA). Have a look at the ‘speeding parts’ website for Swedish performance parts.

TTV flywheels are manufactured here in the U.K., it might make financial sense buying one here- but again the applicable taxes might make it the same as buying it for export to the USA.

Sentinel Volvo in Tottenham is an excellent volvo dealer for oem parts, call +44 (0)20 8985 2255 and ask for Steve. They don’t mind posting parts. Bare in mind there’s a 2 week lead in period for some classic parts, they don’t have everything on the shelf.

Classic Swede is based in Anglesey in Wales, a very, very long way from London.

When are you arriving and what are you planning to do for the rest of your trip?

Cheers

A 940, just go to the nearest Volvo dealer in London. Probably best to order before you arrive.

Earlier Volvos, Brookhouse Volvo in Ipswich is the main supplier of parts and Amazon Cars the best source of used parts. Both are north east of London.

Really expensive getting stuff into the UK from the Europe dealers now after Brexit. If there is anything in particular that you want contact Brookhouse Volvo, Simon and Daren are fantastic and if they can source what you are after from one of their Europe suppliers they will add it to their order and will save you a load.

That sounds like a fun road trip from London to Wales. When I was across the pond. We headed North out of London and saw the Lake District. Super fun driving around there.

Don’t think Dai (classsicswede) has a shop just online so worth checking first. Anglesey is a nice drive once you get into Wales.

If you have time for some sightseeing would recommend the North Coast 500 up in north west Scotland, one of the most scenic drives in the world, easiest way is to catch a plane to Inverness and hire a car from there. https://www.northcoast500.com/

While there catch the car ferry to Isles of Lewis and Harris from Ullapool and drive the Golden Road especially: https://www.visitouterhebrides.co.uk/blog/read/2020/09/the-golden-road-b34 Isle of Harris is very very special, you will be telling folk about it all your life if you go.

Then also do the Bealach na ba road to Applecross, stay a night and spend the night in the Applecross in. https://www.scotlandinfo.eu/applecross-bealach-na-ba-shieldaig/

The west coast of Scotland is special.
