hurrry, need to know speaker size on 740.

ok before I go on order my stereo stuff.

the rear speakers size on the rear door of a 744 (post 90 if that matters) is 5 and 1/4" right? what about the depth? I'm at work and my buddy just called say he has to order the shipments today.

and anybody know how deep it is incld the magnetic bodies?
 
On my 90 i have 6.5" in the front doors and i have 5.25" in the back doors. As far as mounting debth i figure you can always add spacersto bring it out enough... you could have some neat setups tho if you use the four door locations, the dash and the rear package shelf.. i think i'd go for 6.5" components in the front doors, 6.5" mid drives in the rear doors, 6x9" on the shelf, and some 4"? or good tweeters in the dash.. then a sub or few..lol
 
I had to cut to get my 6.5's to fit in the front doors of my 94 940 (same size I'd think?). But I had pretty deep speakers, and they fit fine depth-wise.
 
for a decent 5 1/4 speaker installation in both the 740s i own(ed) requires a sawzall to make the magnet hole bigger. as far as i can tell any depth can fit after that. but nothing decent will fit without wrecking some metal.

?? My 940 has 5.25 up front. I know because I just replaced them last year... I don't think the later 740's had the 6.5's up front b/c isn't the interior layout the same?

As did mine, 5.25 all around. I even cut out behind the grills in my 85 740 and 760 to add 5.25 there. I got 6.5 in my mom's 940 front doors. But as far as all my 740's have gone all pre 90 they all took 5.25.

What year is your mom's 940?
 
I don't have front door speakers :grrr:

I ordered MA HK52 2 way, and only paying $75 (tax incld) for a pair, GANGSTA!

and going to order Audiobahn's 12" sub, forgot the model, 2400W RMS, then gonna hook it up to a class D amp, then Kenwood's in-dash tv HU with receiver , then DVD changer.

PORNO TIME, drop it like its hawt.
 
she has a 94 945t, I did fit the pioneer 6.5's in there, I don't remember weather that required a little trimming. I also have aftermarket grills on them, one of the stock ones had falled off a while before and been smashed, I don't remember if the stock grills would have fit over the pioneers.

the old 740 interior(where the speaker mesh pulls up) got 5.25 front and rear, the new inteior (where the mesh slides forward) got 6.5 in the front and 5.25 in the rear

Correct, up to 88, 5.25" fronts and rears, after that, 6.5" front, 5.25" rear. Though I wouldn't be surprised if some 89's ended up with the old-style interior and thus the 5.25"s up front as well.

I have an '89 740, and the grille slides forward....but they were 5.25.....

i dont think 6.5's would have fit, i did have to kind of rig up the 5.25s to fit right. and as others said, the hole in the back wont work with any good speaker unless you cut some metal.

I actually left my stock ones in, and just replaced the front ones...stock from 89' sounded better than some rockfords i tested in there.

Dash should be 3.25... Or whatever the 3 and then some varriation is.
